Fingerless Mitts

December 29, 2012

Christmas at the Grove

My Mom requested plain fingerless mitts for Christmas. I used this pattern with  a few modifications.

(Those are my brother’s hands by the way. He was channeling his inner hand model in that second photo)

I used DPNs for the fingers and it was a giant clusterfuck. It didn’t help that I needed five but only had four. Magic loop is my preference but the circumference was too small and the stitches too spread out for it to work.

The ends were a pain to weave in but the finished mitts are awesome. I started a pair for myself  with some left over felted tweed. I have a few more repeats to work before I get to the fingers but think it’ll be less fiddly this time.

Hope everyone’s having a great weekend!

All those double pointed needles just exploded my mind!! I love the way the gloves turned out though, and I double love that mulberry color on your second pair!! So pretty! 🙂

Yeah, it kept the project from being a total bore!

I’ve never done fingers before, I think it might just be my 2013 challenge! Btw love the colour of your pair, felted tweed is one of the awesomest yarns if you ask me…

They’re definitely worth the effort. And I agree about the felted tweed!

Gorgeous pattern! Working DPNs is kinda like trying to wrangle an octopus, huh? The first time I used them I swore it would be last. But it wasn’t. 🙂

Sounds about right! The only other time I used DPNs was three/four years ago on a pair of socks. Worst knits of my life!

I admire anyone who can knit, especially as good as that!! I’ve been crocheting for years and last year my mom got be a ton of knitting supplies…that I used only a couple of times. I always go back to crocheting simply because I think it’s faster and easier.
I’ve been making fingerless gloves for my loved ones as well but they are nothing like yours!! Great work!

Thank you, that’s very kind! Knitting was difficult for me at the beginning (I learned to crochet first) but one day something clicked and BOOM I was a knitter.

Wow, those gloves are lovely. I haven’t tried out double pointed needles yet but it’s on my list of things to try my hand at this year. It blows my mind, you have skillz!

    Happy New year!
