Bird Mittens

August 11, 2012

The right mitt was my first attempt at fair isle one and a half years ago. It sucked. The left mitt, which I just finished yesterday, turned out much better. Even stitches, even tension. I blocked the two together and while the right one improved, the difference between them is still noticeable.

Momma's Mitts

Lumpy right mitten on the left, awesome left mitten on the right. (Guess I wasn’t paying attention when I put them down to photograph!)

Awesome left mitten on the left, lumpy right mitten on the right.

I have a few dresses to finish today and tomorrow I’ll be out and about. Hope you all have a great weekend!

I LOVE THOSE! And my first thought was “Put a bird on it!” haha

I feel really lame, I had to google that. 😦 See, not a hipster.

They are so cool! I would be way too scared to try fair isle. I haven’t even knit intarsia before. It seems so difficult to me!

Thanks! It’s not bad once you get the hang of it. Just read up on yarn dominance first, that’s kind of major.

you can hardly tell! At least you can see how much you’ve improved! Great pattern too 😀

Yup, that’s the one upside to having a bad mitten!

So cute! Love these! I can barely tell the difference between the two. 🙂

Those are so nice! I’d have no idea one was better than the other if you hadn’t said anything.

Thanks! That makes me feel better.

They look so cheerful and pretty I don’t think anyone will notice that unless you point it out!

Watch, a fellow knitter is going to see them in real life and say, “that’s a lumpy mitten.” 😉

They are beautiful! I agree with other commenters that probably noone will notice. Also, they would “adjust themselves” some once you start wearing them so the difference will lessen with time. And you can always make another right mitten only, now when you have the hang of it 🙂

Thank you! I didn’t know about the self-adjustment, I’ve never made or worn mittens before. Good to know!

    Very pretty!
