After an epic hike on Wednesday I decided 2013 is the year for redemption.

You see, I did the LA Marathon in 2010 and I SUCKED. Royally.

I was more embarrassed than proud at the end because I knew I could have done better. Others of course were like, “OMG! You did it!” and it was like yeah, I did it, but not well.

Signups haven’t opened yet but I already committed to it with a few friends. I’m so excited. I’m going to train and do it right this time around.

Hugo’s been hiking with me but never struggled until today. At one point I thought I’d have to carry this 40 pound beast! But then he saw a bunny and ran like the wind. All was fine.

Have any of you done a marathon before and if so, how was it? How did you train?

PS: This is what happens when Hugo doesn’t get attention.

Gahhh I love their smooshy little faces! Too adorable for words. And good luck on the marathon! I’m one of those people who’d say “wow, you did it!” even if it didn’t go super awesome because I’d never be able to get up the motivation to do it. So rock on!

Hi-five to redemption! I ran my first full last year and I totally feel you on that “I could have done better” tip. I followed a 16-week training guide from Runner’s World magazine, though I modified it so that my longest run before tapering was about 36km. I was a bag of nerves on race day and started out way too fast, burning out by the end.

I have my sights set on the Seattle marathon in November. Happy training to you!

*hi five*. Happy training! I wish you the best of luck in the Seattle marathon!!! I’ll see if I can find a program, I think that might be my best bet.

Oh Hugo is just too funny! My parents dog talks like that. She thinks she is human!

I think the next step is to teach him how to talk!

Such cuties and what is that noise from Mr B?! Good luck with the marathon, you’re a better person than me for doing it!

I have no idea! Death yodel? Lily doesn’t do it but I’ve heard other dogs do it before. Thank you!

Hi! I definitely agree that your dogs are both soooo cute! And congratulations on taking on another marathon! I did my first in January (Charleston, SC) and am doing another in October (Marine Corps in D.C.). I followed Hal Higdon’s Novice 1 Training Program. Mr. Higdon is famous for his coaching and has helped oodles of people successfully complete marathons (from celebs to normal people like me). Following the plan I felt completely nervous, but completely prepared. I ran with two friends, and we all did much better than we anticipated and had a blast to boot! Here is his website where you can find his training plans:

Good luck and keep us posted on your progress!

Thank you! I’ll look into that program. I’m also looking into the chi running program which emphasizes form. So many options! Best of luck to you 🙂

I think I should invest in one of those baby carriers that sits on the back 😉 And I couldn’t stop smiling either when I saw Lola!!!
