Braided Cowl from Hell
Pattern: Braided Cowl, Vogue Knitting Holiday 2009
Yarn: 2.5 skeins Lion Brand Wool-Ease
Start/Finish: 10.26.10/12.20.10
Needles: US6
Notes: I connected it at four points (not including the center back seam) which you can kind of see in the pictures. I liked that the cowl is wider at one end and narrower at the other, it sits really well on the neck compared to others because of this.
I used a thicker yarn than called for and am glad I did, there’s a lot more structure. The recipient likes snug things so it’s perfect (though she does have to put it on before doing her hair or makeup!)
Kind of wishing I didn’t have to give it up because there is no way I’m going to make another. I’m sure at this point I sound like a whiny baby, but I really really hated making this thing. Cabling with so many stitches on a needle was a PITA, joining the rows together was a PITA, seaming at the end was a PITA, and hiding all the ends was a PITA.
I don’t know what it was about this project but UGH. The finished object is SO NICE and it’s a great cowl, the process just royally sucked. I’ve never felt this way with a project before…
Anyway, Christmas is almost here and the recipient says I can put it under the (currently non-existent) tree but I think I should just fork it over now. It’s been so cold these past few days!
