Revisit A Past Finished Object

Day 6: Bring the fortune and life of a past finished project up to the present. Document the current state and use of an object you have knitted or crocheted.

Like usual, I’m not sticking to the prompt and picking just one. I never was a rule follower…

I’m not a “selfish knitter”. Most of the time I have a person in mind when I start a project and as soon as I’m finished, I fork it over. Because of this, I’m not entirely sure of the whereabouts on most of my finished objects! There are a few things I’ve kept for myself though. My owl sweater, Katherine hat, tea cup pincushion, and cable cowl are the ones I’m going to talk about today. Click on the pictures to be taken to the project page!

Alrighty. First up, owl sweater. Current state? Massive ball of yarn (seriously, it’s about 7in. across). Even though I tried it on as I knit, it still ended up being too long and the back decreases lead to major poofiness (tragic). I frogged it thinking I was going to reknit it, but it hasn’t happened yet. I’m not really sure it ever will…

Project numero dos, my Katherine hat! I’ve worn this a total of three times. It’s not that I don’t love it, because I do, I just don’t love it on my head. Hats in general are not really my thing, so it has to be reaaally cold for me to put one on. I feel so restricted (kind of like hoodies, they make me feel like I can’t turn my head). But of all the hats I’ve made and seen, this is my favorite! The cables + color + lack of slouch=awesomeness.

My teacup pincushion? Most used finished object. It’s currently sitting next to my sewing machine and seems to make using pins more appealing. I used to be very anti-pin because it was too difficult pulling them off my magnet. They would all be laying flat or stuck in the grooves and just weren’t easily accessible. Since the pins are now vertical, I can pick one up without a problem! (OK, I admit, I also thought they were for wussies. I think this association with pins and wussies was established after watching countless online tutorials where people would pin things that didn’t need pins, like two SQUARE PIECES OF FABRIC. Fingers guys, FINGERS!)

Lastly is my cable cowl. I looooove the color and the simple pattern. It has enough structure so it stands up and is just the right size–not too big, not too small. I’ve only worn this twice though! Like the Katherine hat, it has to be really cold for me to rock it. Still, IMO, this is the greatest cowl in the history of cowls.
