Granny Slippers
LOOOOOOOOOOOOVE THEM. I’d put bigger pom poms if could!
Pattern: My Grandma’s Slippers
Yarn: Red Heart Super Saver
Needles: US 8
Start/Finish: 3.17.11/3.20.11
Mods:
Wanted a shorter ribbed portion, continued with garter until start of my pinky toe. (Used the pointy toe decrease)
Knit ribbed portion in the round, strengthened the join when I secured the pom poms.
Seamed up the back until I hit the purled stitches, then seamed from left to right. Think an upside down capital “T”.
Notes: These knit up SO QUICKLY. I finished one during a Gold Rush: Alaska marathon yesterday. I might add a leather sole to the bottom as well as a padded insert. The garter stitch isn’t too comfortable on my feet. Would have opted for a softer yarn but it wouldn’t have been as durable as crunchy acrylic!

If the pompom’s were any bigger, you wouldn’t be able to see your feet. That’s ok cause their yours. They are cute, did you make your Mom some too? So you like Gold Rush-Alaska? Thats another one of my favorites, watched them again last night.
So cute! I made some of these last year for me and my mom and they are the best slippers I’ve made yet. I do agree with the soles on the bottom, mine snagged pretty easy and got messed up I had to knit myself a new pair.
The first thing that popped into my mind when I saw the beginning of the post was if the garter stitch would be comfortable to walk on. I think an insert should solve the problem and it will also make your slippers a bit more sturdy. A nice thick felt insert would make them more cozy and would conform to your foot slightly after a while.
I never thought of felt, I was going to use some padding that I bought for my camera bag. I think I might go with felt now!
OMG! These are just fantastic!
