First Real Attempt At Fair Isle

I cast on these bird mittens since they were the least intimidating fair isle project in my queue. After two false starts I finally got the hang of it! Happy to say it’s not as difficult as it looks. Fridica’s post about yarn dominance came in handy as did this one because I’m a thrower.

I was only provided with the color chart so looked for a basic mitten pattern on Ravelry and Google with no success. After a few ARGHHs I remembered I had one in my Knitter’s Book of Wool!

Pinwheel Potholders

But before all that I made a new pink potholder. The green one was too ugly to use.

Don't Let Her Sweet Looks Fool You

And there’s Smelly. She looks so innocent here but a few seconds before she was jumping and clawing at the cupboards for cookies.

So much yarn! Do you have a bigger fair isle project that you’re planning?

By the way, your fair isle is insanely tidy for unblocked fair isle. My stranded knitting always looks really lumpy until I block it.

It’s all an illusion! There are only 14 balls. I don’t have a bigger project in the works, I just wanted an assortment to choose from for random spur of the moment projects. I don’t have any yarn stores near me so everything is ordered online and I hate the wait.

As for tidiness, if you look closely you’ll see a white thing sticking out of the cuff–it’s a gift card I shoved in there to stretch it out. :)

I would love to learn fair isle. It seems like it is super hard though so I am a bit scared.

That potholder is gooooorgeous! I’m glad I could help out with the colourwork!
